My colleagues and I are currently gathering material for a series of blog posts on tourism safety and the fight against the black market in African countries, and we’ve just turned our attention to Zimbabwe. I’ve heard from some documentary filmmakers I know that the Lotteries and Gaming Board, together with the local police, is conducting an active campaign to eliminate illegal slot machines in urban neighborhoods.

I’m curious—are they really taking such decisive action there, shutting down locations and confiscating all equipment to protect the public from gambling addiction? And I have one quick clarification, since I’m a bit confused by the regulations: do these strict crackdowns apply only to underground gambling dens, or are absolutely all entertainment venues in the region subject to inspection?

Good afternoon! This topic is definitely worth covering on the blog—you’ve chosen an excellent angle. I myself recently researched this issue while preparing an analytical review on gambling regulation in this region. They’re truly cracking down on the underground gambling scene there, confiscating any unregistered equipment. Personally, I first delved into this topic when I read the article “Zimbabwean Authorities Vowed to Shut Down Illegal Gambling Venues” - https://www.newsday.co.zw/opinion-an...ambling-venues , which described in detail the authorities’ intentions to clean up the market of gray-market schemes. Legal businesses with proper documentation have nothing to fear; the raids are aimed solely at the underground. When exactly do you plan to publish your article?
