Built by hand in 1946, and nobody has built another one since.
There is one of these in the world. It started as a Standard Triumph tubular chassis, and at some point in post-war England the original body came off and never went back on. What went on instead was a shell the builder formed himself out of sheet aluminum - long, low, open wheels at all four corners, left bare so you can still read the hammer work in the panels.
This is what "special" actually meant in Britain after the war. No money, no factory, rationing everywhere - but you had a good frame, a willing engine, and a sheet of alloy, so you built the car you wanted. Most were used hard and thrown away. This one survived, lived in England for decades, and came to Canada in 2004.
RUNNING GEAR
Rebuilt and performance-tuned Triumph TR2/TR3 inline-four on dual carburetors, 4-speed manual, rear drive. Roughly 15 hours of runtime since the rebuild - it is fresh, not tired. Chassis 2335, showing approximately 82,871 miles (TMU). Brakes completely rebuilt: new lines, wheel cylinders, rear shoes, master cylinder. Steering components sourced from Triumph specialists. New tires and tubes on steel wheels with full-faced aluminum hubcaps.
And it has a driver-operated exhaust cut-out running out through triple tips - a lever, at your hand, that opens the exhaust. You cannot buy that experience new at any price.
DETAILS
Chrome vertical-slat grille with Standard badging. A hood cut-out to clear the carburetors, because the carbs won and the hood lost. External handbrake handle on the driver's side. Aluminum fuel cap. Rear bumper with tail lights.
COCKPIT
Red leather over a bench seat, tweed side panels, dash and rear bulkhead trimmed to match. The instrument panel is period and gloriously unmatched - Jaeger coolant temperature and oil pressure, 120-MPH speedometer, 6,000-RPM tach, Cemco amp meter, Weston ohm meter, and a Stromberg Motoscope vacameter. Four-spoke wheel, floor shifter, dash-mounted rearview mirror. Right-hand drive, as built.
WHY YOU'D WANT IT
Nothing else at this money puts you in something nobody has seen before. Take it to a show and you will spend the day explaining it. Take it down a back road with the cut-out open and you will not care what anyone thinks.
