BMW E36 Race Car/Track car, 3.0l M54 with ZF320 5 spd for sale. This is a solid, well built, purpose built race car.
We have owned and raced this car since 2015 on through 2024 a couple races per year with strong competitive performance.

Engine is 2003 M54 3.0 liter taken from a totaled vehicle that had one owner and was regularly serviced by BMW. This engine has never been raced.
Chassis is a 1995 E36 325i Sedan – chosen for additional rigidity
Car was originally built to SCCA ITS specs. To start the build the car was stripped to chassis, and various E36 reinforcements were done
- Rear Subframe mount reinforced
- Rear Subframe stress points reinforced
- Sunroof replaced with proper metal panel.
- Front shock tower reinforcement plates installed
- Custom TIG welded roll cage crafted for very tight fit internally. Includes X bars and braces at front doors, and full cross brace horizontal under dash side to side
- Window net
- -Side rear doors have lexan windows in them.
-History: After a couple years of campaigning in this fashion with the original 2.5 M50, the car was converted and ran in United States Touring Car Challenge which was a semi pro national series. For this, the engine was swapped to a 2.8L M52 engine. (Now a 3.0). After that campaign, the car was then endurance raced until an oil pump failure which terminated the M52 engine.
-Engine: The car now has a 2003 BMW M54 3.0 engine at 225 hp (not including header benefit) taken out of a well maintained totaled 530i. Added digital oil pressure gauge and welded the oil pump rotor nut for security. It has Digital RPM with adjustable shift light. The ECU is reprogrammed to eliminate the secondary air pump and the downstream oxygen sensors as well as the EWS security system. Otherwise stock tune. Fresh full synthetic oil change
-Brakes are Stoptech BBK ST40 front 332mm x 32mm rotor package with drop in pads which was $3k. Hawk brake pads all around. All four rotors recently replaced along with pads. Braided flex lines, and fluid flushed regularly. -Air cooling ducted to front brakes
-Suspension is Ground Control / Advance Design double adjustable front coil overs. Fully adjustable front bar, and adjustable rear bar. Front adjustable camber plates. All suspension components (control arms, tie rods, axles etc) were replaced in the original build. Rear shocks are advanced design, rear springs Eibach 0500.225.0850. Another 4k+. -Poly bushings in front suspension, and mounts for trans and engine. Double nutted transmission mounts and trans brace mounts for security. -Front wheel bearings replaced as needed and one new spare front hub with bearings is included.
-Air: Has a custom TIG welded aluminum air box with a K&N cleanable air filter and new intake boots. Fresh ram air intake is through SS screened headlight opening.
-Cooling: Mishimoto aliminum radiator with electric fan currently using water and corrosion inhibitor. New water pump, serpentine and pulleys.
-DISA valve seal is new and the ICV valve was just serviced
-Battery 2 years old. Car always stored indoors heated.
-Exhaust: Car has a complete Kromer Kraft equal length stainless catless header system, with oval 3” full exhaust. Includes recent new magnaflow muffler and a 90° removable upturn for exhaust exit in case you’re at a track that has very low DBA requirements. This exhaust was a thing of beauty and cost around $3K new. Has a welded repair and a few dings now.
-Halon fire suppression bottle in car and piped to both Engine and cockpit.
-Car has an SCCA fuel sample port
-Transmission: Excellent 2003 5 sp high torque model ZF320 trans, with aluminum lightened flywheel and brand new 6 paddle sprung racing clutch disc, throw out bearing, and new clutch master cylinder. Fresh Red Line oil change
-Rear differential DIFFSOnline custom diff. $2k+
-Wheels and Tires: 2 sets (total 8) of 17x8 Racing Dynamics wheels. (One rim is a different cosmetic style due to replacement) One set has brand new tires on them. Second set has 1 race on them. Tires are Hankook Ventus RS-4 225/45-R17. We found these tires to have great grip and the best tread depth and life for this car. $4k of wheels and tires. Racing wheel studs installed at all corners.
-Fuel tank has dual pumps installed yo lower fuel starvation issues so this car can run on very low fuel before any starvation starts.
-Seat Harness: SABELT Halo seat and 6 point harness and window net.
-Has an effective and adjustable carbon fiber rear wing as well.
-Steering Detachable sparco steering wheel.
