ProCharger introduced us to their new D1-X System at PRI 2022. They sell it as complete a complete system thereby eliminating the grief of trying to make it work on your own. Our immediate thought was that we could build it using a liquid-to-air intercooler sandwiched in a Holley Hi or Lo-Ram intake manifold. That would make it plug-and-play. No issues of how to stuff a big air-to-air intake under the hood somewhere. We liked what we saw and ordered one on the spot. We picked the 10-rib version over the 8-rib because you just can't have too much grip on a belt driven system. At PRI 2023, ProCharger introduced their F1-X version which we scooped up and built as well. HOT TIP - This F1-X will be on ProCharger's PRI booth this year.
Getting back to the D1-X in this ad, the foundation is our standard boost-ready 370ci shortblock. It features a seasoned GM 6.0L block that we have digitally remastered on our CNCs. That includes full block prep and engraving on our Rottler 4-axis CNC mill followed by honing on our Rottler diamond, CNC hone. The latter has precision of +/-0.0001" and produces the exact finish we want time after time. The machining data is stored in the the machines' memory and the surface finishes are confirmed with our profilometer.
The crank is a Callies Compstar 8-counterweight with stock stroke. The additional counterweights reduce harmonics and increase stiffness. The net result is a stronger, smoother running engine. The rotating assembly is completed with Callies Compstar rods and Diamond pistons. We also use Manley rods and pistons for this shortblock depending upon parts availability and customer preferences. Our custom COMP hydraulic roller cam for boost provides a great balance of power across the RPM band.
The heads we now use are AFR 12 degree LS3's which are surface milled and then ported on our 5-axis CNC. A key additional machining step is valve job & bowl blending on our Newen CNC seat & guide machine. These heads come equipped with a COMP BSR trunnion kit to stabilize the valve train at higher RPM. The AFRs replaced the RHS heads which were discontinued.
This first engine was assembled using a Holley Lo-Ram intake and 417 Motorsports liquid-to-air intercooler. This family of Holley Lo-Ram and Hi-Ram intakes can easily accept air-to-water intercoolers making them a popular choice for boosted engines. FAST displayed a prototype intercooler for their LSXHR polymer intake manifold which provides the same functionality as the Holleys. Guess who now has one? 2ND HOT TIP: This D1-X build with the FAST intake and intercooler will be on the Maxima booth at PRI 2024. The build starts Oct 1st and can be ordered at any time for delivery immediately following the show.
Other available intakes require less hood clearance and are usually paired with air-to-air intercoolers. We can also build this engine set up to E85 thereby eliminating the need for intercooling.
The complete engines we sell come with the tune from the dyno session loaded on the included Holley Terminator X's ECU. There are a variety of Terminator X and X-Max options which can provide such features as drive-by-wire and automatic transmission control. FuelTech EFI systems are also available and provide additional features such as an integrated, waterproof display and more robust harness.

Notes
1 These engines are not pollution compliant and are intended for transportation use only in pre-pollution controlled vehicles.
2 All BRE engines are individually dyno tested and tuned. Customers will be supplied with video of their engine's dyno along with the dyno and build sheets.
3 Dyno results on the same engine are influenced by atmospheric conditions. The same engine can easily test +/- 2% different on horsepower depending upon ambient conditions. The engine you receive will have completed its dyno session at no less than 98% of rated horsepower with the tune we provide.
