Our standard Whipple supercharged 427ci LS is an awesome ProTouring powerplant. Here's why:
- 1,200 hp and more than 1,000 lb-ft of torque from 3,400 to 6,100 rpm
- Easy to install thanks to its self-contained water-to-air intercooler
- Internal bypass allows engine to run naturally aspirated under light throttle pressure but provides instant throttle response on demand
- Choice of styles (standard or inverted lid) and finishes (black, polished, custom)
Custom versions are available for competition, alternate fuels and marine applications as described below.
The extreme torque requires a very stout build. We start with a Dart SHP LS Next block and replace the main bolts with P1 main studs. The rotating assembly consists of a Callies Compstar center-counterweighted crank, Callies Compstar Extreme I-beam rods and either Diamond or Mahle race pistons. Bottom line - this is a short block built to last!
We believe that All Pro LS heads offer the best combination of strength and performance on the market today thanks to features such as 12 degree valve angles, a nearly 1 inch thick deck, HIP treatment and virgin aerospace grade aluminum. We machine raw castings on our 5-axis CNC to our own proprietary design for maximum performance. The hydraulic roller valve train features Johnson hydraulic roller tie-bar lifters stabilized and strengthened by a COMP BSR shaft rocker system. Together, this package delivers power, high rpm capability and longevity.
The serpentine system is a critical performance part in a belt-driven supercharged engine. This one is up to the task! It also boasts features like a 225 amp alternator and the option to mate with a HydraTech boost system for better braking. It is available in black, polished or diamond-cut.
This Plug-n-Play engine package comes standard with the Holley Terminator X-Max engine management system. It features both transmission control and drive-by-wire. This self-learning system gets a head start by coming with the tune installed from your dyno session. No chassis dyno is needed post-install. To solve all your vehicle instrumentation issues, you can also pair up the Terminator X-Max with a Holley Digital Dash.
OPTIONS
Aluminum Block: Iron is stronger, but heavier and less heat conductive than aluminum. Dart aluminum blocks have more than adequate strength for this application. They are 100 lbs lighter and are far better at heat removal. The weight reduction significantly improves vehicle handling and braking. The heat removal advantage can be a big deal. Horsepower and heat generation are directly proportional. We often see Pro-Touring cars with inadequate cooling due to either insufficient airflow or poorly designed cooling systems. A heat-shedding aluminum block will help keep engine temp down. The only downside of the aluminum block here is higher cost.
Performance: No street tire can hook up the power delivered by this beast. The upgrade package for competiton applications that will hook up is going to a Callies Apex crank and Ultra rods. Flex fuel is another popular upgrade. E85 delivers a big boost in power while lowering both IATs and EGTs. Dedicated alcohol fuels builds let us push the power limits further with higher compression.
Finish: The supercharger, serpentine and valve covers come standard in black. All can be ordered polished. Have some other idea - gold dipped, custom paint, rose gold? Let us know. We done all these! Custom engraved valve covers? Sure, why not?
Oiling: This engine comes standard with a GM oil pan. A Holley retrofit oil pan is ideal for many restomods. Neither may be what you need. We will work with you to select the oil pan right for your vehicle so it leaves our shop drop-in ready for you. A serious upgrade would be to switch from wet sump to a Dailey dry sump oiling system.
Transmission: The power of an engine like this puts a transmission to the test. We designed this engine to be a cruiser, and for us that points to over-drive transmissions like our highly-modified Hughes 4L80e or Tremec T-56 six speed. If you can keep your right foot in check and don’t go crazy on the gear ratio in the rear end, you can pass everything on the road including the gas stations.
Engine Management: The available FuelTech engine management systems provides a more robust wiring harness and feature-rich system. The FuelTech ECU doubles as a display unit unlike the Holley system where the ECU and Digital Dash are independent units. Their IP67 rating makes them ideal for Marine Applications.

NOTES
1. These engines are not pollution compliant and are intended for transportation use only in pre-pollution controlled vehicles.
2. Vehicles converting to drive-by-wire should order the optional GM DBW pedal assembly.
