i think the point that was being made is that the larger gap places more of a strain on the 6aL BOX..which opens the door for potential failure..No-one said it would not fire or work at .050 gap...but it plays hell on the 6al ignition/wires etc...
my opinion is if you opened your gap to .050 and it cleared up i would be looking for a little hotter plug and back down on my gap....you igintion will love you for it...
also what do you run for motor set up....
