Of the two it probably wouldn't matter as long as you went with a GOOD brand chain. Some people like the gear drive due to the fear of breaking a chain. Some just think the niosy gear drive sounds cool. I myself now use a belt drive.

Chain or belt drive......any gear drives I've seen had waaaaay to much slack and the noise doesn't impress me at all.

Chain....when racing use the belt drive can change cams and cam timing....if you're not racing it use a chain....jmho....

A belt or chain will absorb more harmonics than a gear drive system.

Agree with TS1955. Thats why you should never use a gear with a cast crank.
