How does Uganda’s regulator plan to continue combating illegal slot machines?

Hey everyone! Following the recent high-profile busts of illegal slot machine manufacturing workshops in the country, a pretty logical question comes up regarding the future of the market. The operation in Nebbi showed that the shadow sector has reached a serious scale. As a participant in this discussion, I’m curious: how specifically does the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board of Uganda (NLGRB) plan to combat illegal slots moving forward? Should we expect tighter legislation, additional inspections, and even harsher penalties for violators?

Also, do regulatory bodies plan to involve local communities and local law enforcement for regular monitoring, or will oversight be carried out strictly through raids by central task forces?

Hey! I heard that the NLGRB is actively ramping up the scale of Operation "Mashine Haramu," joining forces with the police and local administration to uncover underground spots and workshops. The authorities' plans include not only systematic field raids to seize and destroy unlicensed equipment, but also significantly toughening criminal liability for manufacturing and importing uncertified machines. In that article on https://pmldaily.com/news/2026/02/ug...-in-nebbi.html , the regulator made it clear that this is just the beginning of a massive nationwide cleanup.
