JE Pistons

I just got my pistons in the other day and want to see who uses JE and if you have anything good or bad to say about them. They sure look like they are first class. I went with a nitrous piston. Thanks

FullTimeRacing 07-10-2009 01:32 PM

I have 13 to 1 JE's in my 360 cid sbc ,they are the best pistons I've ever had,But I've only built a hand full of motors

hammertime 07-10-2009 02:11 PM

I used to use them all the time in my sb stuff havent used them in my bb's though. Always had good luck then

cepx111 07-10-2009 09:20 PM

I had some in a SBC I used to have, top notch stuff.

Question: Aren't SRP and JE one in the same company?
I've heard they were / just wondering > Cp

Yes but The JE's are made of a better grade Aluminum than the SRP's. At least that's my understanding.

mytmouz 07-10-2009 11:34 PM

JE's here also...

SRP's are 4032 I think is the alloy and JE's are 2618. Different coefficient of expansion and different strength qualities.

I have used JE pistons in 4 of my motors with no complaints or problems.

russ67chevelle 07-12-2009 08:24 PM

srp pistons are 4032 grade aluminum, the je pistons are available with the much desired(and the ones i have in a nitrous application)2618 for harsher environments with more cylinder pressure, nitrous blower and turbo stuff

i have them and no probs sofar,i got them through flatlanderracing.com(if memory serves me correctly)motor is a dart 572.

srp pistons are not ment to be used with much over 200 horsey power hit of nitrous.

I posted last nite but removed the post, JE is a great piston, SRP's are soso, and all are overpriced. I've been useing Probe for the last couple yrs. They are every bit as good as JE and a ton better than the SRP pistons, and 30% cheaper than JE.

I went with JE because I thought the price was pretty good. Like I said they are "nitrous pistons" and I paid $1030 for the pistons & rings and that included shipping. I don't now what the Probes cost so I can't say anything their prices.

ARUSSELL 07-13-2009 08:01 AM

It is good to hear that all of you had good luck with our pistons. We are looking at ways to lower cost without sacrificing quality.

chevyfireball 07-13-2009 07:52 PM

My 632 runs JE nitrous pistons. Two seasons with no probs. Running 700 hp nitrous, twin 1220 carbs.

cepx111 07-14-2009 12:33 AM

So I guess your all saying no funny gas for my 496 as I have the soso srp's. Dang it!

If you decide to upgrade call Titan Motorsports and ask for "Bottle" tell him I told you to call. They are a distributor for all kind of performance companies. Their web site is www.titanmotorsports.com

ARUSSELL, the JE tech said it himself a couple months ago, he does not recommend useing nitrous with SRP pistons.

Our SRP parts are designed for about 100hp per cylinder, or for most of us 800hp. If the engine makes 650, then 150 nitrous is safe.

andysvw 07-19-2009 07:33 AM

some 1 would not sell me srp for a blown 1471/572 chevy alky motor dart 360 heads all the good stuff would they?

I wouldn't say that some people will sell anything just to get the dollar, but it would be one big mistake to put them in a blown alcohol motor. I've got 7 of them setting on my shelf in the shop that came out of my 358, 1471 blown alcohol sm/blk, the 8th one melted right down to the top ring groove about a 1/2" wide blowing out 3 qts. of oil and spinning a rod bearing, it happened all in 1 pass and there was less than 10 passes on the motor.
Best to go the extra bucks and buy blower or nitrous pistons, the top ring groove is down 7/16" from the top of the pistons on them.

building a 871 blown 509 chevy on gas, going to run 12 to 15 psi boost.have a set of new flat top srp pistons, says in catalog ok for blower use,was going to use them but now i am not sure.what do you think.it will be in 1/4 mile drag car on race gas 2500lbs.

OneBadGMC 07-26-2009 04:19 PM

I ran JE SRPs in my 505 blown alky.

That motor made 1200 crank HP. The tune was always safe, but the pistons had a bit of skirt rash on them for unknown reasons.

For my current 568, I went with Diamond pistons, and couldn't be happier. After 6 runs at 1600+ crank HP, the bearings and pistons look absolutely perfect, like they've never been run.

When the pistons arrived, I was even hesitant to use them. They looked more like works of art rather than something that would be installed in an engine.

Price was about 1200.00 for a set of custom pistons with 1.094 pins, pin buttons, rings, and 12 gas ports, using a .043.-043-1/16 ring pack.

et7333 07-26-2009 04:32 PM

Did any of you check the pin clearance on your JE pistons?

OneBadGMC 07-26-2009 04:49 PM

It's an old post, but, worth reading...

so for my application it looks like these pistons should be sufficient?

ashbros 07-27-2009 07:46 PM

I have used Ross, Arias, CP, SRP & JE. I usually use JE in all my personal projects, but I like the results that I am seeing with Diamond pistons.

Can't say I had any problems with any of the manufactures, but about 10 years ago I was noticing the same result with the Ross pistons that OneBad was noticing with the JE's.

For the last 5 years I have cool coated every set of JE pistons I have ordered. They are all still running in the motors they were built for.

Good luck with your JE's and have fun racing....
