gears?????
hey a got a 93 chevy 3500 (454) what gears would it have in the rear end im thinkin somwhere around 373 or 410 but bowhay thinks itll be in the 270 rang any help
My 93 k3500 454 dually had 4.10's. There's a decal in the glovebox with a bunch of 3-letter codes on it. One of them will tell you. I'd be happy to check Alldata at work to decipher the code for you......
it by no means is in the 270 range :!:
ok so just write down all the numbers in the glove box and send them to you o and ya thats what i told him but hes swears on the name chevy itself that its 270 range
hope this helps.
IN YOUR GLOVE BOX THERE ARE CODES GM USE'S. TO FIND OUT WHAT GEAR RATIO YOU HAVE HERE THEY ARE: GU4 IS 3.08 .... GU6 IS 3.42 .... GT4 IS 3.73 AND GT5 IS 4.10 THESE ARE THE GEARS THAT COME IN 81-04 FACTORY AND IF THERE IS A G80 BY THOSE CODES ITS POSI. |
ssweet thank you that helps alot cause im thinkin of takin the entire rear end out and puttin it under my 92 1/2 ton
ok well i found the gt5 so i know waht gears it has but atol of the codes are scratched off and i dint find the posi code so is there another way
I hope you bet Bowhay money on that gear ratio , you would have took it , never seen a 3/4 or 1 ton truck with a 270 ratio , he must have had his thinking cap on backwards that day
just ribbing you Bowhay :D |
yea
i guess i jsut had thing backards lol |
I also own a 93 Chevy 3500, it has 4.10 gears and as far as i know they never came with a posi. unless it was a special order, like a 4 wl drive.
Zip. |
NEVER SEEN ONE BELOW 3.08 IN 3/4 TRUCK . UP NORTH HERE WE HAVE A LOT OF POSI'S IN 2WD PICK UPS (SNOW SUCKS)!! : :P
did you say you was going to put this rearend in a 1/2 ton truck :?:
whats the purpose? lower gear ratio?? would be cheaper to change ratio in one thats in there not to mention the weight you are going to add to your truck,,HEY , you could run dual slicks  |
im not puttin the bed or nothin and ya i have wanted 410s so this works out good and the extra wieght might help some with traction cause right now i havent hooked up off the line since my first race
I think the weight will hurt you more than help you , you need to transfer the weight that you already have instead of adding more unsprung weight.. this is my opion , now . (probally not everybodys,) my car weighs 1440 lbs if I add 200lbs to it , it will slow down, without a dought!
that 1 ton rear end is one heavy ass piece..you could probally sell it for enough to buy gears and axles for the one already in your truck , which is probally a 12 bolt..just food for thought , you might ask a few of the others on here what they think :D |
I did a few of those rear end swaps like your stating. Its a good deal to do. That is a corparate 10 bolt 30 slpine in the 1/2 ton 6 lugs. What we did was got a 3/4 rear with 6 lugs, (dont have to change rims) 9 1/2 ring gear semi-float axle. That being a 1 ton is most likly a corp 14 bolt w/ full float axles. Make sure that you measure the spring perches, might have to relocate them.
alright thanks cause im proly swappin this week
 good luck with all that,,,,are you going to run 8 lug wheels on a drag truck??
ok well thats reassuring that other poeple have done it with good outcomes but what is full float mean lol
INNER BEARING OUTTER BEARING, RIDE ON RACES IN A HUB AND HAVE AN AXLE NUT TO SECURE IT TO HOUSING END, DRIVE AXLE IS BOLTED TO THE HUB, NO C-CLIPS.
I give up  , you said truck will not hook up , if you go to a lower gear ratio it will spin easier ...I ve heard of people jumping off a cliff and were pleased with the outcome , but I don't think my idea of pleased is the same as theirs , I don't think you will be pleased with this outcome either , but that is your decision , I just hope you don't go through all that trouble and regret it..as I said earlier , you could probally sell that big , heavy ass 1 ton rear end for enough to build a good lighter 1/2 ton rear. But you seem to have your mind made up ,,,once again , GOOD LUCK WITH THAT. and i will shut up on the subject ,seems you only hear what you want to hear. :D HOPE IT WORKS FOR YOU :D
with that heavy rear end and three 100lb bags of concrete mix should cure wheel spin
I would seriously consider some wheelie bars....all the extra weight along with the 4.10 gears just might put that thing on the bumper.
as long as were adding all this extra weight , put two bags of concrete under the hood then ya wont need the wheelie bars :P :P
Seriously though I think you are going to work your hind end off and not be happy with the end result. I would sell that rear end and buy either gears or a whole other rearend that is not so big...but you have to do what the budget allows.
my first drag car was 1970 c10 pickup, 12 bolt 1/2 ton rear, 410 gear , good set of axles , ran the crap out of it and never broke. lite, cheap ,strong.
well to every one who said sell it thats what im goin to do i was planning when to do the swap when someone came and told me they would give me 300 cash for it so ima take it thnks for all the help though
Hey, txhunter69,
no one is making fun of you, it's just that you are heading in the wrong direction and people are trying to help you from making that mistake. Sorry if i made you think that, but really people hook trucks like yours all day long, without going to extremes. Zip. |
o i know i was serious thank you a was still struggling with the idea but when he told me that i decided selling it and buyin new gears would be better
