Selling race cars
Is it just me or are you guys all seeing a VERY soft market for cars right now, I'm guessing that money is alot tighter than we all thought. Of course, I'm selling a dragster of which there are 750 or so on any given day! But, I remember when I bought this car it was on there for many months. I would assume that during the season might be a better time to sell. I'd like to have a new ride but if this one doesn't sell - it doesn't owe me a thing! Just wanting to get some feedback from those who have sold or are repeat sellers on here. Cheers and have a great '08!  8) JB

Its for sure a buyers market right now. People just dont want to spend money, dragster market is flooded right now. Problem I see is there is a lot to choice from and as a seller you have to make a buyer want your car by pricing it dirt cheap. I see a lot of used cars on there for only a few thousand less then new. I personally will spend the few thousand and get a new car. Flooded market means you should be willing to sit on it awhile sometime it just takes the right person.
Remember pictures are everything ! Good luck selling ! |
sale
Hammer, I agree with your post wholeheartedly, another thing I see is that it seems like there are not a lot of buyers (or lookers) on the west side of the U.S. There are a lot of listings mainly east of the Big Muddy, so I assume there are more prospective buyers out that way. I'll just sit tight and see what shakes out! 8) JB

There is always a buyer out there just takes time ! A few cars I thought I'd never sell and always seems I sell them just when I dont think I will. West Coast will make it harder to sell you are right, good luck and happy new year !

I have had my car for sale for a while. I am giving everything but the kitchen sink. I got an 05 that is now priced the same as 02-03 dragsters. The market is dead. Either the buyer wants a $5k older hardtail or a $50K chromed out, brand new car.
|
Yup shawn I feel your pain. Actually I was still considering your double-suspended car since it's back on the market. Pretty decent buy if I must say so myself. But I gotta sell first....  8) JB

dragster
hey im with ya ive got a top sportsman dragster 263 long not more than 20 easy[?] passes on it and i cant give it away[dont even go there] its just setting in my other enclosed trailer taking up valueable lawn mowing stuffs room! heck ive even tried to trade it off but either they want you to give it to them or they want to trade ya a bunch of "junk" for it. its not costing me anything but id love for some one to have this car its a great car but i dont need it . engine is in the wrong place! lol mike

It hasnt been easy to sell a $50,000 dragster either. I have had mine on here for a while, I think its just to early. For some people to move up they have to sell thers first, i know i did.

I think there are a couple things people fight on here. Unless it says Undercover, Mullis, Worthy, Racetech or Danny Nelson it is hard to sell. There are a lot of great local shops. I still consider American, TNT and Diamond to be local builders. Then there are regional guys like Miller and M&M. Some old names like Bos, Spitzer and S&W that carry reputations as top dragster or light weight comp cars get passes by because of the old reputation.
A lot of guys are looking at wheelbase as an issue. The 250 plus cars have lost interest to some of the top dragster crowd with the advances in chassis and suspension technology. There are a lot of 235-245 wheelbase swing arms and 4 links out there in the top dragster crowd. It is easier to load and takes less trailer with this wheelbase. Makes it easier to haul more than 1 car. JB from Dragstersforsale.com said it the best to me. He said:" Shawn, people want everything for nothing and you want to be able to get everything by giving up nothing." Bottom line, find what you can give away with the car that makes your deal the most appealing. |
Money's tight right now, 1 thing on here is it's free to post ad's so why not put your car for sale. 90% of the cars on this site are over priced, i just sold an 02 racecraft 4 link for 14,000 and was happy. We were looking for a loaded 06 or 07 model but people want more than you can get a new one.
If everything works as good as it looks i'll be in hog heaven in my 08 mullis swingarm. :D Mark |
Mark,
I talked to Troy at the PRI show. They had a killer deal on a house car that was being used for display purpose only in 2007. He said he could take or add the options anyone wanted. We talked about it put did not like the powdercoat color on the chassis. I think it was Misty Lava??? |

We have a '98 Mullis 4-link my daughter drives and she loves it.

Im just curious, since Mullis race cars are built in Bradenton Florida would they not be considered a local builder if you lived in Bradenton?

Hey David... It just bothers me a little when someone thinks TNT is just a local builder. You know Tommy Phillips and what kind of racer he is and you also know what kind of car a TNT is. By the way you asked me awhile back what kind of plugs i was running, they are Champion C59CX. The facelift on your new car is looking good!! Don
|
If I remember correctly, Tommy Phillips was with Cameron cars or another top notch builder? TNT is a new name that people do not recognize naionally like the others I mentioned. He is, right now, more of a local/regional name. He needs more cars out there for exposure before he gets the name that Undercover, Nelson, Racetech, Mullis and Worthy carry. That is one problem you are having. Trust me... been there and done that. So has Dave.
|
Yes, he was the one who designed the first 4-link for Cameron. Now he has Joe Monden Race cars build the chassis and bodys for him and he does the rest. Most of what he sells are complete cars out the door and he is selling them as fast as he can build them. My son works for him and there woking 7 days a week. He is different than most, when he tells you when it will be ready it will be ready, unlike some of the others, and i wont mention any names!
|
That is really a different type of partnership. Does he plan to build his own complete cars or just do the suspension and finish work? Cameron was one of the best working 4-links you could buy. That was a company that could have been on the top.
|
Yeah, If the owner of Cameron hadnt had a nose problem he would still be in business. Tommy has no desire to build the chassis and i dont blame him, Its the dirty work. Tommy has had many Camerons but he likes his new design better. Hell, he took our car out on its debut and won the Dallas Nation Event with it. Every time he goes to the Million Dollar race with his new car he comes home with an empty trailer. They just finished a T/D roller with tranny today, it sold for 45,000.
|
Shawn, Troy already had my order before PRI the car was delivered on 12/22/07 that was 2 days later than the original delivery date but pretty darn close
Cameron cars were very nice, to bad they're gone. Mark |
Im telling ya, these cars are probably a Cameron plus everything he has learned since he designed the original for Cameron. Joe Monden sells a swingarm, he can only build this car for Tommy. It is a great working car, take a look @ ad# 1067557

Waiting for taxes
I have had at least 40 calls about my funnycar ad but being right after Christmas most are waiting for their tax refunds to get the money back up.Rob...
|
I had a Mullis 4-link on here for $14,000. Sold it in 30 days. The guy bought my Nelson car. Now I just need to sell the Mike Bos car. It is going on 60 days with it. Good luck to you all. The market is flooded.
|
the market is worse than soft i have got an outlaw 10.5 car on here for sale and its a real 10.5 car and it shoulc be worth 50000.00 and i have it priced for 36000. and cant get any players on it at least anyone with any money. i also have a gn buick chrome moly car on here that should be worth 25000 and only trying to get 15000
oh well just got to keep trying. pat |
I am pretty new on here, and have been looking to buy a dragster to ship back to Australia to race here. At the moment the exchange rate is great making normally expensive American built cars an attractive proposition. I am wondering if the market is so soft as ppl say it is why don't ppl return emails, phone calls if they are keen to sell? Anyone knows of hardtail, BBC name brand car , turnkey 17K on the west coast let me know!!

I found one!! Now just have to wait two months to see it !!

Selling race cars
Well it's been quite a while since I posted this, just wondering if you guys are seeing any action in the market? Figured with the season under way that oughta spark some interest. Still seeing alot of the same cars for sale tho. I got lucky and sold mine locally and just about have a deal wrapped up on the replacement car. I still have a shortblock and some tires to sell, just wanted to bring this to the top and see how everybody's doing. 8) JB
|
Not dragsters...but I just sold a 64 Fairlane in one day and bought a Mustang in it's place within a week. It's starting to pickup....think TAX REFUND. :D
