11963 Ford Falcon – 427 SOHC Cammer
At first glance, this 1963 Ford Falcon is a beautifully finished black-over-red classic with the clean, simple lines that made these early Fords so appealing. Lift the hood, however, and the personality changes completely. Reportedly built by Barillaro Speed Emporium, this Falcon is powered by an all-aluminum 427 CI SOHC “Cammer” V8 producing approximately 700 horsepower.
Developed during Ford’s intense 1960s racing battle with Chrysler, the legendary Cammer remains one of the most fascinating engines of the muscle-car era. In this Falcon, it breathes through dual Holley 600 CFM carburetors with MSD ignition, while a Be Cool aluminum radiator with twin electric fans keeps temperatures in check. A built C4 automatic sends the power to a Detroit Locker rear end.
The rest of the car was built to complement what’s under the hood. A custom A-arm front suspension, four-link rear, adjustable coilovers, and Wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes provide a serious performance foundation. Tubbed rear quarters make room for massive Mickey Thompson Street S tires, while custom Sprint aluminum wheels give the Falcon a muscular stance without taking away from its classic lines.
Inside, the rich red interior provides a striking contrast to the black exterior. Bucket seats, a Grant steering wheel, Hurst shifter, tilt steering, seat belts, and an AM radio retain plenty of vintage character, while rechromed grille, headlight, and taillight bezels add the finishing touches outside.
For the Ford enthusiast who knows what a 427 SOHC Cammer represents, this Falcon is something you don’t come across every day. It combines an unassuming early Ford with one of the most legendary engines from the height of America’s horsepower wars. Fire up that 427, hear the dual-carb Cammer come to life, and this little ’63 Falcon suddenly tells a very different story.
