1967 Ford Thunderbird Landau Hardtop
For consignment, a 1967 Ford Thunderbird Landau hardtop with a title verified 46,129 actual miles. A garage kept Glamour Bird in a great period color on a fantastic design that would dominate the line for just three years.
Exterior
The first thing that strikes you is that distinctive face, shared by no other car, with an oblong grille with perfectly hidden headlights and the wingspan of a Thunderbird flying over the middle. The car is bookended in the back by an equally unique tail light treatment where the red completely encircles aluminum trim wearing two birds and hiding reverse lights. And while the hood behind the face has a slight rise in the middle, the trunk lid has a slight depression while the side of the Pebble Beige car has a body fold that casts a shadow and tapers at the ends. Also in profile, the straight shoulder line holds an upright, wide C-pillar with brown vinyl top and Landau bar. Our 15-inch wheels hold 225/75R15 with a late 2021 date code and look period fresh. The metalwork, paint, and glass is in fantastic condition with the only imperfections noted are a ding in the metal rocker panel and some scratches near it, and some minor cracking paint in the lip of the wheel opening.
Interior
Saddle vinyl covers the boxy door panels that wear an armrest that not only spans the length of the door, but houses courtesy lights, the door actuator lever, and the manual mirror adjuster, all over a plush brown carpet lower. The sporty low backed bucket seats up front have robust padding and lovely saddle vinyl patterned in pleats and embossed with the Thunderbird logo, and the driver gets electric controls. The bench in back seats two in a booth like setting reminiscent of the Naugahyde booths found in fine Italian restaurants. The center console, in epic 60's fashion, extends through to the back seat providing a storage bin for rear occupants and a separation that is augmented by a pull down armrest, all in great condition. That center console starts in the front with camel plastic and its aluminum plated sides add a touch of upscale trim which is repeated behind the gauges in front of the driver. The entire dash is an exercise in form and function and in this car, both are equally special. Chocolate brown loop carpet covers the floor while a tan headliner with overhead console and lights like we see in the Mark IV glow from on high. The compartmentalized trunk is covered in gray cloth and shows some usage but is fully intact and houses a spare tucked under the package tray.
Drivetrain
In the engine bay, we find a clean 390ci V8, rated at 315 horsepower and topped with a 4-barrel carburetor, backed by a C6 3-speed automatic transmission sending power to the Ford 9" axle out back with 3.00 gears. Power brakes are here with discs in front and drums in the rear. It's driver quality conditions under the hood that would spruce up well with some quick detailing.
Undercarriage
Driver quality underneath, generally clean and free of invasive rust, however plenty of surface rust prevails. We note some oil on the rear differential and the oil pan, but no grime on the knuckles. The dual exhaust meets a pair of stock style mufflers that do have flaking rust on their outer shell, while the exhaust trails to resonators that beget small exhaust tips which exist out back. The suspension set up consists of coil springs in front and a 3 link, coil springs and a panhard bar out back.
Drive-Ability
Gotta love these low, sleek, stylish cars from the 60's and this one is exemplary. The 390 delivers great power, plenty of gusto, and tracking, handling, and braking are all good. Be sure to check that right side mirror when switching lanes because while the C-pillar creates a cozy backseat, it also presents a blind spot. Which won't matter when you're parked at a car show all day. Meanwhile, we note some things that will need attention as they are not working including the power windows, the power locks, the A/C, and the clock. In addition, the wipers are slow, and the headlights go on but the doors don't open. Everything else functioned as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Based on the inventory we've represented over the past six years, we can say this generation Thunderbird does not come up often. This is a fine example and retains all of the unique exterior and interior features reserved for these special years of Thunderbird. So grab some glamour and put this bird under your wing!
