For sale; 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T. This vehicle has been a race car its entire life. Therefore, it has always been indoors and out of the elements. This car is unique in its construction as it could be returned to a Pro-Street car with steel front fenders etcetera. The grill is the 1971 original complete grill. I have owned the car for four years without racing it; during that time, it has been cranked weekly, serviced the fluids and burned about 1 drum of alcohol in the past year taking it out on the street in front of the house for some picture and a few hard hits. The previous owner had the car for 46 years. Over the years the car evolved from a simple back half Pro Street style car to the full-blown NHRA certified chassis race car it is today. The car will accept a driver 6ft 3in driver. . Im only 5ft 6 and need to move the seat forward a few inches.
The roof, A-pillars, front and rear windshield frames are intact, the rocker panels are original (still using factory door hinges and door post striker) Factory roof, headliner and dome light are in place. Factory rear quarter panels and rear tail panels are OEM, Taillights work, Electrical power is XS Power 16 volt (XS Charger/maintainer and Battery are 4 months old). Painless wiring throughout. Engine functions are controlled by an MSD GRID firing MSD spark plug wires with proper looms separating the wires.
Most of the cars interior is light gage steel painted battleship gray. The Transmission cover and rear-end inspection panels are aluminum. A Turbo Action Cheeta with a Air Shifter puts the car through the gears and accommodates two speed or three speed transmissions. All of the current windows are lexan, However the factory window framing and trim clips have been retained on the car; so factory trim and glass could be reinstalled in the car without much effort. Doors, one piece slip-on front cap and the front bumper are race weight fiberglass. The car can be repeatedly HOT LAPPED without overheating. Ive driven the car over 5 highway miles at 60-70 mph, stopping and turning around, etc then driven back home without overheating. The car runs mid 9.50s with the 2-speed glide. Car will run 8.80s with a 3-speed automatic and rear gear change to 4.10 or 4.23s,
Koffels Place (inventors of the B-1 heads) built, assembled and dyno-ed the engine. ARP studs are used throughout. Dyno sheets are included in Pictured. Factory 440 block has been three quarters filled with solid block filler, with new billet main caps and a bottom end stud girdle.
Heads are Edelbrock Victor 440 heads CNC factory ported. Minor port and polish and fitment by Koffels Place. Edelbrock Super Victor Intake is port matched to the heads. This is topped with a APD 1250 CFM alcohol race carburetor and RUPERT fuel log. Fuel is fed by a Barry Gant belt driven fuel pump with bypass returning to the fuel tank. Solid roller camshaft, bronze distributor drive, roller rocker arms and custom length pushrods, cam timing is adjusted by an external Jesel camshaft belt drive, Fluid Damper Harmonic balancer, MSD crank trigger, Aluminum water pump housing, Meziere electric water pump. All braided SS lines for fuel, water and oil. Complete Milidon oiling system, including oil pan, dual line pump and remote mounted oil filter with all SS lines, Engine has an engine diaper to prevent track oil downs and there is an engine vacuum pump, Davis triple row radiator, separate transmission cooler with independent fan. Custom long tube headers with collectors. Headers are set-up with thermocouples to read exhaust temp before staging,
Braking system is Wilwood single peddle, dual master cylinder with adjustable front/rear bias, rear brakes a Wilwood, front brakes are factory Mustang 2. Chassis Engineering front coil overs with 3 inches of travel. Rear end is a DANA 60 4-link with an anti-roll control bar, Moser 40 spline axles and spool and 4.88 gears tied to an aftermarket power glide. Car is designed to accept a power glide, Turbo 400 or a Chrysler 727 transmission. Rear slicks are 32x16 x15. Car can accommodate a taller tire. Rear struts are adjustable QA1 shocks mounted to the DANA 60 and a pair of custom wheelie bars and Parachute. Paint is Summit single stage white with flat black Stripes and flat black hood. The car could use fresh paint.
