1969 CAMARO Z/28 - SOLD NEW BY RATHMANN CHEVROLET, FLORIDA - NUMBERS MATCHING WITH ITS ORIGINAL PAPER
This Garnet Red Z/28 was sold new in July 1969 by Rathmann Chevrolet in Melbourne, Florida, the Space Coast dealership owned by 1960 Indianapolis 500 winner Jim Rathmann. The original owner's paperwork stayed with the car, and that is what makes it special.
The file includes the warranty booklet, the Chevrolet pre-delivery check sheet, the Rathmann sales order and instalment contract (both listing the VIN), licensing, service and gas receipts, stereo paperwork, the original Florida plates, spare keys and later California title history. The Protect-O-Plate verifies the drivetrain, and the engine, transmission and rear axle are all numbers matching.
It is largely original. The metal is the car's own and the dealer-applied undercoating is still on the car, undisturbed. A single repaint carries the stripes under the clear coat. It runs and drives.
Why it matters: Chevrolet built 20,302 Z/28s for 1969, and Garnet Red was only 7.7% of all 1969 Camaros. Very few Z/28s still carry their delivered-new paperwork like this one.
