1969 CAMARO RS Z/28 - UNRESTORED CALIFORNIA CAR - ORIGINAL VINYL TOP
A Van Nuys-built Z/28 with the Rally Sport package, sold new by Courtesy Chevrolet Center in San Diego. It still wears the dealer's plate frame and its black-and-yellow California plate.
The order is unusual for a Z/28: four-speed and Rally Sport, plus a green vinyl top, AM radio with rear seat speaker, special front bumper and seat belts, in Fathom Green over a midnight green vinyl interior.
What makes this car is what hasn't been done to it. The engine and transmission are believed never to have been out, and much of the original rubber is still on the car. Apart from a single repaint, it is a true survivor - a third-owner car with title documentation covering its entire history.
Why it matters: Chevrolet built 20,302 Z/28s and 37,773 Rally Sports in 1969 but never published how many had both, and far fewer were ordered with a vinyl top. Unrestored examples are increasingly sought after as more cars are restored away from original.
