1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Tribute
For consignment, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS tribute with true mileage unknown as the title reads exempt, and sporting a later model 454ci V8. This standard sport coupe has been transformed to honor one of the most iconic muscle cars in muscle car history and the paint, wheels, and interior make this a show stopping, ground stomping SS tribute.
Exterior
Tuxedo Black covers this car beautifully and we're already hearing AC/DC's "Back in Black" in our heads. Steel panels are straight, and gaps are well minded while white painted SS wide track stripes race from front to back on this car, skipping the roof, just like the real deal. Brightwork includes stainless steel wheel well surrounds, SS chrome rimmed emblems, fantastic bumpers that hug the sides, mirrors, door handles and window trim, all looking nice. Gotta love the coke bottle design and the gently sloping rear B pillar as it meets the trunk and enhances the already muscular stance of the car. Well done, Chevrolet! It's all bumped up a few notches by the polished American Racing Torque Thrust wheels, 18-inch in front and 20-inch in the back with low profile tires and all nicely tucked under the fenders, looking lean, mean, and clean. A cowl induction hood is held in place with stainless hood pins and rises slightly over the flat plain with Cowl Induction emblems on each side. One scratch on a rocker panel is the sum of all imperfections on this nicely done exterior.
Interior
Looking mostly original, we see door panels that are nice and straight vinyl patterns in white. Thin, chrome metal trim rises above the armrest and also split the door panels below where it goes from ribbed design to textured white vinyl. Front buckets are covered in white vinyl as well, and include headrests where we note some wear on the driver's side. The rear bench shares the pattern and could benefit from a detail as the seat belts have left a print. Black loop carpeting appears like new and is covered with Chevrolet branded rubber mats. Behind the vintage looking 3 spoke steering wheel is a standard dash with a clock and speedometer in line with the fuel gauge. Not to worry as a trio of auxiliary gauges have been added under the dash, just below the AM/FM radio and vent controls. The horseshoe shifter is like the throttle on a 747 in a factory console that's easy to read and presents in clean condition. The black headliner is high and tight, and the trunk is clean and houses a small mat for protection.
Drivetrain
Another money shot on a car with several, under the hood a clean engine bay with a non original 454ci orange block V8. It is sucking copious amounts of fossils and air through a 4-barrel Holley carburetor which routes the atomized dino juice through an Edelbrock intake manifold. A TH400 transmission in 3-speed automatic form is behind the powerful mill, and in back, a 12 bolt turns the tires. Headers are also present to begin the exhaust end of things, and power disc brakes in front are aided by power drums in the back to tame this beastly powerplant.
Undercarriage
Nicely clean underneath, uniformly black in its base with bright or colored components. The dual exhaust encounters a pair of FlowMaster mufflers then finds its way to the back where a pair of tapered chrome tips exhale like trumpets. We note only a drop or two of oil on the orange pan up front. In back, the rear differential has noticeable oil and it may be coming from the pinion seal and heading back. There's no road dirt or grease build up and surface rust only on the A-arms. Coil springs are found up front and a 4 link with coil springs are out back.
Drive-Ability
A smooth massive 454ci big block muscle powered car with a great retro interior, great sound, and a head turner with wonderful sinister black paint and the striking contrast of white stripes. Good smooth steering, braking, and acceleration. We note the following items not working; the horn, reverse lights, clock, front turn signals, and heater blower. All other functions on board and out work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
All hail a muscular stance that we dare say, might be better than the original Chevelles of 1970! 18-inch wheels were unfathomable back then, let alone 20's, and 35 series tires probably weren't invented yet, not even for race cars. So what we have is the brilliant Chevrolet design, (man, those tail lights!!), mixed with some shoes from the 21st century, combined with some elements of a muscle car king, and it makes for a very attractive package that if pressed for a prediction, would lead us to say this will not last long. So, shift into gear and make that call before someone beats you off the line!
