1956 Chevrolet 210 Gasser project vehicle. This vehicle has been started and includes several upgrades for a project vehicle.
The chassis is a Custom Tri-Five Checkered Racing Chassis w/ ladder bars and a 9" rear axle (Quick Performance 3rd member w/ 4.11 new in box) w/ back brace, tubular cross members, rear axles installed to roll. 4 wheel disc brakes conversion (rear still need to be installed), QA-1 rear adjustable coil-over shocks. It has a straight axle setup, leaf-over-axle up front.
Front tires are - Coker Classic L78-15
Rear tires are - Firestone Dragster 8.20-15
Wheels front & rear are - Cragar S/S
Transmission is a Tremec TKX 5 spd.
The engine is a 509ci W-Series based engine, built from completely aftermarket parts.
The block is a Bill Mitchell Products 409 W Aluminum Engine Block that uses Big Block Chevy rotating components and was bored and honed to a final size of 4.500”.
It has a 4.000” stroke forged crank, forged 6.135” H-Beam connecting rods, and 4032 alloy W-Series specific 4.500” bore piston with a 77cc dome.
The engine is fitted with a high-volume oil pump and a rear sump 6-quart oil pan for Camaros, Chevelles and Tri-five Chevy chassis.
A completely custom billet hydraulic roller camshaft was ground for the engine by COMP cams with the correct journal sizes and lobe arrangement for the W style head and features a 4/7 swap firing order.
The specs are 237/255 @ .050” durations, a 114 LSA, .395”/.399” lobe lift with .672”/.678” valve lift. The rest of the valvetrain features COMP Cams billet timing set, Evolution Retro-fit BBC hydraulic roller lifters, 3/8” diameter pushrods, and 1.7:1 ratio, stud mount, steel rocker arms which are covered by the vintage looking Edelbrock finned valve covers.
The cylinder heads are an Edelbrock 409 big valve cast aluminum head with dual valve springs that were professionally ported by the 409 experts, Lamar Walden Automotive to increase the flow by up to 40 CFM.
A specifically made Cometic MLS head gasket produces a pump gas friendly static compression ratio of 9.95:1.
The Edelbrock Dual-Quad intake manifold was also ported and matched to the heads by LWA, modified for a more modern catch can crankcase evacuation system, and is topped with FiTech EFI’s 2x4 Go EFI system to provide excellent drivability and control which is paired with a FiTech Advanced CDI box and coil.
A basic v-belt accessory drive uses an aluminum mechanical water pump and a 94-amp 1 wire alternator.
The headers are designed for 1958-1964 full size passenger cars and wagons but fit the aftermarket ’56 gasser chassis with minor modifications and they feature 1 7/8” primary tubes and 3” collectors.
Run on 93 octane pump gas on the engine dyno, the 509ci produced peak numbers of 581hp at 5700 RPM and 606 lb-ft at 4300 RPM.
