2006 Chevrolet Silverado LT 1500 Max Extended Cab 4x4 Pickup
For consignment, a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado Lt 1500 Max extended cab 4x4 pickup with a title verified 85,305 actual miles. Whew! That's a mouthful. 1500 meant half ton, LT was one of 10 trim designations, extended cab was just that, and of course, 4x4 meant a lifted truck that could split power between both axles, and max meant more horsepower. More than 636,000 Silverados were sold in 2006 and this one was a Colorado truck before landing in PA.
Exterior
Bad to the bone Black covers this truck and is complemented by the black accents of the bumpers, the tinted windows, and the plastic mirrors, door handles and mud flaps. And with black, you get sharp contrast with the present chrome that includes the bumpers, trim on the grille, side molding, the 20-inch wheels and the Vortec Max emblem on each door. This is a handsome, upright truck with a square profile and a high, bold stance. 4x4 is emblazoned on the bed and a tow hitch is ready and waiting out back while the bed is lined with hard plastic and is in great condition. It may have been intended to be a work truck, but this one's been slacking on the job because it's in near flawless condition and we could not find any glaring imperfections.
Interior
Charcoal plastic door panels are uniform and clean and all switches, handles and back plates are made of black plastic. The rear half doors open up to reveal a cavernous entry and wear an armrest and cupholder for back seat occupants. Robust charcoal bucket seats take up the front and only the driver's seat shows some slight patina with minor creasing and a small tear on the side. The passenger seat along with the rear bench for three are in very nice shape although leg room in the back is limited with the front seats pushed back. Standard GM fare up front where the black leather wrapped steering wheel includes numerous thumb controls, shares its column with the shifter, and fronts a clean and basic instrument panel. Need to go into four wheel drive? Hit a button to the left of the panel. No trudging through snow to lock the front hubs! The center stack is a clean array of radio and climate controls and digital panels, leading to plenty of storage below including dual cupholders in the console. Low pile gray carpet is protected by rubber mats and the foam formed headliner is in great shape and home to an overhead console with lights and storage.
Drivetrain
Under the hood, a clean, shrouded 6.0 liter LQ9 V8 engine tied to a 4L65E 4-speed automatic transmission. The Vortec Max is the high output version of the Vortec V8, putting out 20-45 more horsepower than the standard LQ4 engine. The rear 14 bolt is a semi floating axle and contains 4.10 gears and the front diff contains the same ratio, of course. Power disc brakes occupy the front while power drums squeeze the back wheels to a stop.
Undercarriage
All indications underneath lead us to believe this truck has had an easy life! For a truck with 85,000 miles, it looks more like 8,500 on the bottom side. Minimal surface rust, no oil drips, no grease or dirt build up anywhere. Colorado has varying environments, from deep spruce forests to flat dry deserts and we're guessing this truck was a valley dweller. Meanwhile, suspension consists of torsion bars up front and leaf springs in the back. Tandem exhaust pipes meet an original equipment muffler then join in a Y-pipe to exit as a steel pipe behind the right rear wheel.
Drive-Ability
We climb up into the cab where we're immediately impressed with the comfort inside. It's not the top trim luxury pick up, but it's also not a bad place to be. Visibility is great from up high and the V8 cranks to life instantaneously providing good acceleration. We stay in two wheel drive as we make our way around our flat test loop, trying all the bells and whistles this LT3 optioned truck offers and pleased to find everything works as it should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
If you're in the market for a half ton truck and have been watching the automotive news, you may have noticed that brand new trucks are having problems, from the Tundra to GM and Ford products, the newest offerings are heading back to the dealership with consistent, major issues. Now is the time to find clean, older trucks that may prove to be more reliable. This Silverado is the perfect candidate as it's been pampered and retains the venerable Vortec. Sure, it won't have the gadgets and gizmos of modern technology, but it will spend more time in your garage than the dealer's service bay, and that's what counts!
