Several years ago I bought this project CJ7 from someone around Summerville with a known blown I6 with the idea of restoring and making a few modern improvements. I also needed a hobby.
Over time I made progress but in 2022 I wound up in the hospital for several weeks, got better and eventually recovered. In the time following I had pretty much lost all desire to do any more automotive anything.
It’s finally time to find this project 1982 CJ7 a new home so someone can take over.
The entire body is powder coated with Forest Powders Laguna Blue. When I bought the jeep, the windshield frame was rusted so I got an aftermarket one that came in the color which drove the rest of the powder coating scheme.
The hood, roll bar, and grill are original. I bought the spare tire carrier, tailgate, and fenders afterwards.
All of the tires were bought new from Goodyear. I had the original wheels chrome powder coated.
The original seats are rebuilt. I found a stainless steel dash and mounted the original instrument cluster (untested) in it.
I had the original skid plate powder coated. The chassis has been powder-coated as well. I missed a broken bolt on the driver’s side for the skid plate. The chassis had a couple of other problems, namely the driver’s side rear and I tried a home made fix using oversize bolts for the leaf springs mounts. That is untested and may not be usable. The plan was to get a rolling chassis at one time. Since I am selling, I’m not concerned. I’d like to hope the chassis is usable.
The front end I think is operational. I engaged the hubs a couple of times for testing.
However, the rear differential has a problem that I didn’t catch until much later when I was going to clean and paint. For example, if the driveshaft is at 12 o’clock, nothing engages until about 2 o’clock. I figured a rolling chassis if I ever got one would be in better shape. I never took the housing off.
The I6 was blown and I still have the block. I later obtained a rebuilt 304 with an aluminum intake. The actual inside condition is unknown.
I never found a transmission/transfer case for the 304. A year of so later after buying the jeep, I sold the I6’s equivalent. I wasn’t thinking.
The body tub is original and has a few cosmetic flaws but has new floor pans I bought and had welded in by the local powder coating company. The inner fenderwells were rusted and somewhat damaged so I modified them to support a glove box type carrier on one side and extra 12 volt power on the passenger side.
Some of the other minor cosmetic defects I didn’t mind since those would make the jeep easier to trace if ever stolen and to me kind of pricey. I planned to build and keep it so those little flaws didn’t bother me.
A Northern Tool gantry crane is also part of the package. I don’t need it after the jeep leaves. I bought the crane since I was the only person I had. It’s a great labor saver. I also made up a wooden cradle for the body with some casters. The body is supported by metal stands that are also included. I don’t need them.
I got all of the small parts out for the photos below and have more than what’s here. Sharing via Google Drive would probably work best. I hope not to get them out until they are leaving. There is a mix of new, original painted / powder coated small parts.
The shocks are new. Some of the heater box parts are included. The sway bar is original and powder-coated.
The body and crane are about ½ mile apart from where the the other body parts, tires and the rest are.
I don’t have a trailer any more and am in really no shape to handle the big stuff by myself but I will be only too happy to help load anyway I can.
Please feel to ask questions. I think I remember all of the main things and put them here. If you want to come and see for yourself, please let me know. The zip code is 29206.
Late afternoons and weekends would be best for showings.
The title is clear and on-hand.
I will respond to sensible inquiries and offers.
