The car was a "Car of Tomorrow" (COT) model with a 5.8L (358ci) Hendrick-tuned V8 engine producing over 789 HP, equipped with a 4-speed manual transmission. This race car was setup for road course! After each season Hendrick Motorsports race car's each get restored and receive a replacement engine. It can be used for events like Hooked on Driving (HOD) and Club racing, Road Racing Series like the Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) Assoc. on tracks such as Road Atlanta and many other road race tracks across the US.

The reason why the last years are so desirable is because they are the last to have the carbureted engines. After that they went to fuel injection and the teams would not sell you the systems for programming or tunning. That's their own research and development patents. Therefore, after those years you wouldn't be able to tune them. So the last of the carbureted ones are the ones to collect. I believe 2012 was the last year.
